Flock Safety Cameras
The Granby Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe while maintaining transparency and respect for your privacy. To support these goals, the department utilizes Flock Safety - an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system that helps us solve crimes and protects residents more effectively.
How It Works
Flock Safety cameras capture a small snapshot of a vehicle and the license plate- functioning differently than standard security cameras. The systems allows officers to conduct retroactive searches to solve crimes after they've occurred, as well as receive real-time alerts for vehicles on law enforcement hotlists (such as vehicles affiliated in an Amber Alert).
Privacy Protections
We understand that transparency is essential to community trust. The cameras only register license plates, and all data is automatically deleted after 30 days. The system is not used for facial recognition, and data is solely used for law enforcement purposes and is never sold to third parties. It is not used for immigration or traffic enforcement.
Transparency Portal
In keeping with our commitment to accountable policing, Flock Safety provides a public transparency portal where community members can review how the Granby Police Department uses the system.
